Round the numbers correctly - round up or round down?

On this page we want to practice rounding for rough approximations.

You can round down and you can round up. In general rounding, we need to recognize when to round down and when to round up.

The exercise involves rounding to hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands.

This is how you round correctly:

Rounds to tens

  • 0 - 4: round off
  • 5 - 9: round up

rounds on hundreds

  • 0 - 49: round off
  • 50 - 99: round up

Everything clear? The same goes on accordingly with the thousands and tens of thousands!

Especially when calculating with sizes, rounding helps us.

For example, a car has a total weight of 1387 kg. Nobody can remember such a number. But rounded, the weight can be given as 1400 kg. This is much easier and is sufficient to classify the weight in comparisons with other cars.

We also need rounding to perform rough calculations. Here we only use rounded values to quickly get a rough result.
